Between 2000 and 2004 I was obsessed with crossing Iceland's Vatnajokull ice cap alone, on foot, in the Winter season; a journey that nobody--not even the bold Icelanders--had ever attempted. I completed the expedition in March 2004, after 29 days on the ice. The expedition was televised as National Geographic's "The Deadly Glacier", and I'm currently writing a book about my experiences, tentatively titled The Frost Giants. You can learn more about the expedition at soloice.com. Photo copyright Willifred VanDePeet.
