| After doing a few TV shows (one for National Geographic Television, one on the Outdoor Life Network, and a segment on Oregon Public Broadcasting), and talking to more "TV people" and producers than you can shake a stick at in the last few years--and getting a peek into the wildly fickle world of TV production--I've dropped even thinking about TV projects. And I mean like a bad habit! TV is a potentially great medium, but I've found that no matter what gets shot, it's just impossible to say how the thing is going to turn out; it's all in the hands of a few editors. And the hyperactive, adrenaline-saturated, entirely forgettable editing I see on a lot of "outdoor" TV these days is so depressing that I'm not pursuing any TV projects. Still, I do like to splice and edit sounds and images from my various projects to convey how things really were.
Below is a video from my Alaska 2007 expedition, made entirely using sounds and images that convey what I was feeling at the time, with no thought for anything else (e.g. what other people think of it). When I watch this, it really puts me back on the tundra and sea ice; I hope it does the same for you. Below that, a recent video (July 2008) of a flight test for my upcoming expedition to the Arctic.
